AU - Hermione In the Triwizard Tournament: The Second Task - Hermione saves Ron from the Merpeople.

The eerie depths of the Black Lake turned Hermione’s blood to ice. It wasn’t the temperature, of course, the effects of the gillyweed ensured that, it was the sense that millions of invisible eyes were trained on her as she combed the thick seaweed for any trace of whatever it was she was looking for. She still hadn’t figured out what possession of hers the merpeople had stolen. If it weren’t for a last minute tip of Neville’s, she wouldn’t even have the life-saving herb that was currently allowing her to breathe underwater to search for the secret item.
After kicking and thrashing her way through a particularly thick clump of weeds and muck, she found herself at foot of a smooth, sandy trail that lead to what looked like a mini underwater village. A melodious string of intricate notes played in her ears as she approached the tiny village and she recognized it as the same song she had heard nights ago streaming from the golden egg she’d retrieved in the First Task. This proved beyond any shade of doubt that she’d found precisely what she was looking for.
After making her way past the prying eyes of the slimy-looking merpeople in their golden huts, she found herself in what must have passed for the town square. Guards surrounded a large roped off area. It took Hermione a moment to realize what the merpeople were guarding so extravagantly, but once she did a bubble containing her shocked exclamation of surprised issued from her mouth.
It was apparent now what the merpeople had deemed the thing she would most miss. A shock of red hair, freckles peppering fair skin like chili powder, lips parted in a relaxed, drowsy O.

‘Cause true love lasts forever and now we’re back together, as if he never met her so looking back, I’m glad I crashed the wedding.
